The Solution

Hippocrates is a medical centre for 0-15 year olds living with a disability or a chronic illness, who cannot afford to pay for treatment. Life-changing treatment and therapy of the highest standards are provided to the children attending the centre. Operations are also arranged and paid for.

There is no other centre of its type in the whole of Moldova but Hippocrates is forced to turn away many more children than it can treat. The centre currently has capacity to treat approximately 80 children a year who suffer from problems of the central nervous system, cerebral motor infirmity, neuromuscular pathology, cardiovascular, scoliosis and respiratory diseases. Around 40 of these children are disabled.
The centre also runs training courses to teach the latest techniques to 35 students. The training courses teach students and medical staff how to work with children with locomotion disabilities. Professional and organizational training is key to the future vision of the centre.

The Children’s Health Centre is also currently working towards educational inclusion of children with chronic illnesses and disabilities by working with schools to receive children with specific health needs.
